Functional Skills

Are your English or Maths skills holding you back? If you want to improve your reading, writing, or numeracy skills or want to gain a qualification for the skills you already have, a Functional Skill qualification could be for you. Functional Skill qualifications are designed to help you develop the skills you use in everyday life. We offer Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications.

You will start at the level that suits you and we help to build up your knowledge and skills. Level 2 is an approximate equivalent to a GSCE pass grade 5 -7. The benefit of taking a Functional Skill qualification through First College is that it is not always classroom based but rather based on teaching structured around your individual needs. Our learners gain such confidence that it often acts as a springboard into further learning.
